UN Department of Global Communications to Host Panel Discussion at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2022

The Frankfurt Book Fair, which runs from October 18–23, is where several domestic and foreign publishing firms will be showcasing their newest works.

Based on the number of publishing houses participating, the Frankfurt Book Fair is the biggest trade show for books in the world. International business and trade is the most significant book fair in the world. There are over 4000 exhibitors registered, representing 95 nations.

Spanish King Felipe VI and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier officially launched the fair on October 18 in the evening. Spain is the host nation this year and is showcasing modern Spanish literature under the slogan "Spilling Creativity."

UN Publications is also present with a booth in Hall 4.2/H24 and will introduce its autumn/winter 2022-2023 catalog. UN Publications is the source for more than 5,000 volumes created by the UN and its major agencies. Visitors may find a comprehensive list of current releases and notable books.

Additionally, on Saturday between 5:00 and 6:00 pm, the UN Department of Global Communications/UNRIC will hold two-panel discussions in the "Frankfurt Studio," Hall 4.0, room Europe. Leading publishing professionals, journalists, and writers will talk about how young readers can support climate action and how publishers may help with climate change mitigation. Two significant UN efforts for increased sustainability will also be covered, namely the SDG Publishers Compact and the SDG Book Club.

This week, a lot of discussions, talks, and readings center on contemporary political issues like the conflict between Russia and Ukraine or the circumstances in Iran and Afghanistan.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, takes part in a conversation online on Thursday. The show will come to a conclusion on Sunday when Ukrainian author Serhij Zhadan will receive the German Book Trade's Peace Prize.
